Bank of England boss Mervyn King says it’s no more Mr ‘NICE’ Guy
The Bank’s credibility is not supposed to be called into question, which is perhaps why Mervyn King, the Governor, felt it was necessary to bat away the attacks as firmly as he did at Wednesday’s Inflation Report.
“Over the past three years, inflation has been volatile and above target for much of that time,” he conceded. “That does not mean the MPC has taken its eye off the inflation ball, nor has gone soft on inflation. We have not.”
With inflation above the 2pc target for 42 of the past 51 months and currently at 3.2pc, the market could be forgiven for thinking the Bank has “gone soft”.
Top Reward Checking and 5-Year CD Rates at RCB Bank in AZ, KS & OK – Local Only
Monday, August 9, 2010 – 7:25 AM by Ken – Bank Deals Guy
RCB Bank has two good deposit deals. The first is a high-yield checking account called Go Green Rewards Checking. I first reported on this account in 2008. The rate has fallen, but it’s still very competitive for reward checking accounts. As of 8/9/2010, it pays 4.10% APY on balances up to $25K. The main requirement is 12 debit card purchases a month. It does not require direct deposit, but it does require that you log into your account at least once a month. As is typical, e-statements is also required.
The other deposit deal is a competitive 5-year CD rate of 3.00% APY as of 8/9/2010.
Credit crunch consequences: three years after the crisis, what’s changed?
It was supposed to have been the day the world changed. The credit crunch “officially” began on 9 August 2007, and there were plenty ready to dance on the grave of capitalism and the free markets. But three years on, for all the hand-wringing, the economic upheaval and the promises of politicians, there is a whiff of business as usual in the air. Read more…
Bank of England holds interest rates, quantitative easing to aid recovery in Budget squeeze
The nine-strong Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) was not swayed by the UK economy’s rapid 1.1pc advance between April and June, with growth expected to fade in the second half of 2010 as the biggest Budget cuts since the Second World War take hold.
Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, has repeatedly emphasised that there is no guarantee that the recovery which began in the fourth quarter of 2009 is sustainable.
Using Wire Transfers
by Miranda Marquit
Last week, we examined the differences between a wire transfer and an ACH transaction. Wire transfers can be very convenient for a number of purposes, and they are used to save time, and to increase the security of transactions. You can use wire transfers for more than just sending money; wire transfers can be useful in other ways as well.
Because wire transfers are secure, they can provide peace of mind. When a CD matures, many banks and credit unions mail a check. You have to worry about the check being lost in the mail, as well as lose out on interest on the money for several days while you wait for the check to arrive and the funds to clear.
Secrets to an Organized Filing System
Back to school season always gives me the urge to get my filing system organized.
Suddenly, after living with piles of file folders and floating bits of paper that have been on the desk so long they’ve collected a film of dust, I want a bare desktop and everything neatly filed in an organized, easy to access filing system so efficient that whatever document I’m looking for practically springs into my hand.
And because I dislike filing so much, I want my filing system to stay that way – neat and organized with little or no effort on my part.
Is it possible?
