Discover Bank continues to offer competitive rates on its savings account, CDs and IRA CDs. For those who might have been unsatisfied with Discover Bank in previous years, you may want to try them again. As I reported in February, they have made significant improvements in their online banking interface which simplifies many aspects of internet banking.

Discover Bank’s online savings account rate continues to be one of the top for internet banks. The rate is 1.35% APY as of the morning of 7/30/2010. This has held since February of this year.

Retailers add thousands of jobs this year

The shop and retail sector has experience a colossal increase in the number of jobs during the second quarter of 2010, a new study showed.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) in conjunction with business law firm, Bond Pearce conducted their recent Retail Employment Monitor (REM).

Results showed that full-time equivalent (FTE) employment in shops was up by 3.6% in the second quarter of this year compared with last year.

Small businesses called to sponsor 2012 Athletes

UK small businesses have the opportunity to get involved in the Olympics and Paralympics, under a new scheme.

Britain’s preparations for London 2012 could be boosted by millions under an innovative new scheme launched yesterday at the British Olympic Association’s (BOA).

The ‘Our Team 2012′ programme for small businesses will raise at least £15 million with the aim of helping to meet the £25 million fundraising target which will equip 1,200 athletes with equipment and training.

Companies will be asked to pay £9,900 per year to participate in the two year programme, which includes a number of benefits such as meeting athletes, attend related network events, and will be given tickets to UK sports events. The

CDs or Savings Accounts in Today’s Interest Rate Environment?

A reader recently asked me why open a CD when rates are so low. Wouldn’t an internet savings account be better until rates are higher?

Last year at this time many had thought we would surely see higher rates in 2010. In July 2009 there were a few savings accounts with a 2.50% APY. The best 1-year CD rate was 2.50% APY, and the best 5-year CD rate was 3.91% APY.

For the last year rates have continued to fall.
